Alan King   BE, GradDipBusStuds (PFP)
Authorised Financial Adviser
Managing Director
Canopus Investments Limited

Alan spent many years as a professional engineer in the telecommunications industry, holding senior planning, design and construction positions for Telecom New Zealand in Auckland during the intense capital development years immediately following conversion of the old New Zealand Post Office into a publicly listed company. Managing an annual construction budget of up to $20 million, Alan oversaw major network upgrades which brought digital service to nearly one third of New Zealand's population through fibre optics, microwave, cable multiplex and multiaccess radio for the outlying islands.

At the conclusion of that exciting time, Alan decided to follow his intense interest in business creation, financial analysis and sharemarket trading through his own company, establishing Canopus in 1996 as a private investment vehicle, also offering discount company formations to the public.

Since then the Canopus range of services has expanded to include investment advice and financial planning. More services and products may well be added to the "stable" in future, but only when the prime objectives of Canopus can be maintained - "Top quality financial services at affordable cost".

Alan is a member of SiFA, a collegiate body of financial advisers, membership of which is restricted to financial advisory practitioners generally in private practice or in the employ of smaller, privately owned practices and not bound by salary, contract or performance inducement to any provider of financial products or services. He is therefore subject to the rules, regulations and ethics of that industry body. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) degree from Auckland University and a Graduate Diploma in Business Studies (Personal Financial Planning) from Massey University.

Alan is an Authorised Financial Adviser (FSP31002), authorised under the Financial Advisers Act 2008 to provide investment advice and investment planning service in relation to both Category 1 (complex) and Category 2 (simple) investment products for retail or wholesale clients.
